Reports of poor harvests lead to higher coffee prices – but also new opportunities
Reports are pointing to a disastrous coffee harvest in Brazil but rising prices are not the only outcome. The challenging harvest exposes the convoluted and unfair mechanisms of the coffee trade, and the environmental and climate challenges that the whole industry must solve together. The good news is that when challenges become so apparent, it gives us the opportunity to do something about them.
New report: Cooperation strengthens Löfbergs in the sustainability field
Lower climate impact, more certified coffee and increased support for small-scale coffee farmers. The new sustainability report from Löfbergs shows that the family-owned coffee company continues to develop in the sustainability field. Löfbergs is now aiming at new goals: circular transformation with zero waste.
Securing tomorrow’s morning coffee
A year ago, Kathrine Löfberg was appointed chairman of the board of the 110-year-old family company Löfbergs. She is now taking over the chairman's gavel of International Coffee Partners. From the start in 2001,ICP, has worked together with more than 30,000 farmers to make smallholder coffee farming more competitive and to improve livelihoods for coffee farmers all over the world.
Löfbergs reduced its climate impact
Even though Löfbergs increased its production, the company's climate impact decreased. This is partly due to continuous energy efficiencies and more renewable energy. At the same time, the company sold a record amount of coffee from certified farms. This is shown in the coffee group's sustainability report for 2013/2014.
Fairtrade labelled capsule - a favourite among young master chefs
Löfbergs let Sweden's Junior National Culinary Team test their capsule favourites. And the winner is? A classic and Fairtrade labelled fine-grind coffee: White Rainbow.
100% good coffee from Löfbergs
The interest for organic and sustainability labelled products has exploded over the last year. Now, it will be even easier for Swedish consumers to choose sustainable goods from the coffee shelf as well. As from September, Löfbergs delivers 100% good coffee to grocery stores.
Axfood Snabbgross includes Löfbergs's capsules
Axfood Snabbgross is including Löfbergs's capsules to its assortment. With that, Löfbergs gets another channel to Swedish restaurants and cafés, where capsules are getting more popular.
Löfbergs strengthens with a well-balanced Colombian
Full-bodied and well-balanced with floral notes, leaving a sweet taste sensation with hints of honey and plums. That is Löfbergs's latest addition of speciality coffee: Red Ecolsierra. The coffee comes from Sierra Nevada, close to the Caribbean cost in Northern Colombia.
Sodexo increased to 53 per cent Fairtrade coffee
In one year, Sodexo in Sweden has significantly increased its share of Fairtrade coffee, from 2 to 53 per cent. This has resulted in slightly more than SEK 1.5 million for coffee farmers and cooperatives. The reason behind this rise is an increased focus on sustainable business - and a change of coffee supplier.
Löfbergs awarded for its sustainability work
The coffee roaster Löfbergs received the award Excellent Sustainable Supplier today. The Swedish Environmental Management Council (SEMCo) rewards a company that is successfully working with the supply of green products and services.
Nordic Choice and Compass Group chose Löfbergs
Löfbergs secures its leading position in the Swedish Out of Home market. In a joint procurement, Nordic Choice and Compass Group chooses to prolong their agreement with the family-owned coffee roaster. Except for a lot of good coffee, the agreement involves a unique investment in sustainability.
Rasta makes a coffee venture with the Swedish National Barista Team
Rasta is making a unique venture in coffee. Together with the Swedish National Barista Team and Löfbergs, a new concept is developed to be used at Rasta's service shops across Sweden.
New tasty capsules from Löfbergs
Organic medium roast, milk capsules and Cloetta Polly. Löfbergs is now presenting three tasty new capsules. The products will hit the stores in February and will also be available in Löfbergs' web shop.
Dark roasted favourite - now also as instant coffee
In a short time, Kharisma has become a favourite among Swedish coffee lovers. The dark roasted coffee is now introduced as freeze-dried instant coffee as well. This new product will hit the stores by the end of February. It will also be available in Löfberg's web store by then.
Martin's exclusive flavour favourites
Great flavour has been the centre of the business since 1906 when his great grandfather founded Löfbergs. Now, Martin Löfberg has travelled around the world and found his flavour favourites. They have been given the name Löfbergs Edge - an exclusive series of coffee, straight from four carefully selected cooperatives.
Löfbergs nominated for three awards at Dagligvarugalan
Many great contributions in the retail trade are rewarded at Dagligvarugalan in Sweden. Today, this year's finalists were presented. Löfbergs is nominated for no less than three awards, including the Environment Award of the Year.
More harmony in the family
It is quite the best-seller and is already available as fine-grind coffee. The Harmoni (the Swedish word for harmony) family is now enlarging with two new members: whole beans and freeze-dried instant coffee. All kinds of Harmoni coffee are labelled with both KRAV and Fairtrade. These novelties will be launched in the beginning of May 2013.
Swedish coffee at Finland's national arena
The agreement has been signed. Shortly, the audience at Finland's national arena, Hartwall Arena in Helsinki, will be drinking Swedish coffee from Löfbergs. For Löfbergs, this settlement is an important step in the progress of taking market shares outside of Sweden.
