Löfbergs won environment and climate award

Löfbergs is the winner of the Environment and Climate Innovation of the Year, a newly instituted award presented by the municipality of Karlstad. The family-owned coffee roaster is awarded for its long-term climate work and for building a unique solar panel facility in central Karlstad.

- We are certainly very proud! It means a lot that our sustainability work is appreciated on our home ground, says Martin Löfberg, chief procurement officer and owner in the fourth generation.

Europe's most sustainable coffee group
The Environment and Climate Innovation of the Year is a newly instituted award that the municipality of Karlstad presents to bring attention to innovative solutions for minimizing greenhouse gases emissions. Löfbergs is awarded for its long-term climate work and for building the world's first large-scale testing facility with solar panels for heating as well as cooling.

- Through energy efficiencies and more renewable energy, our climate impact has been reduced even though the production has increased. The aim is to be the most sustainable coffee group in Europe, says Martin Löfberg.

The new solar panel facility is based on technology that ClimateWell has developed, and it reduces both energy use and CO2emissions. The efficiency is at record levels. For every kWh invested, 10.6 kWh is extracted. That is twice as much than with previous solutions.

- The facility is truly compatible with our thoughts on sustainability and has attracted interest in other parts of the word, for example in China, says Martin Löfberg.
