Honey gave SEK 10.000 to Julänglarna

This autumn, the Swedish coffee roaster Löfbergs has sold honey that the company's own bees in Karlstad produced. Everyone that bought a jar has had a say in who will get the surplus from the sales. Kathrine Löfberg presented SEK 10.000 to Julänglarna, which got the most votes, this Tuesday.

- A welcome and valuable contribution. This means that we can help even more families with children in Karlstad to celebrate an "ordinary" Christmas, says Andreas Kullberg, founder of Julänglarna.

Julänglarna is a non-profit organization that collects food and gifts to make sure that families who otherwise cannot afford to celebrate Christmas will be able to. The contributions come from individuals as well as companies. Julänglarna helped 130 families and 270 children in Karlstad last year.

Positive by-product
This summer, Löfbergs got 100.000 bees that live in hives up on the roof of the roasting house in central Karlstad. Their main task has been to pollinate plants in the immediate surroundings and contribute to a greener urban environment. As a by-product, they also produced a lot of great tasting honey that Löfbergs has sold in its café.

Everyone that bought a jar has had a say in who will get the surplus from the sales. The staff at Löfbergs presented four candidates that the customers could vote for, and Julänglarna got the most votes.

- From the beginning, the bees were an environmental investment, but in this way, they have been doing good things on a social level too. It feels great to have our own honey that can empower someone who does good, says Katherine Löfberg, director of communications at Löfbergs.

There was quite a buzz when Löfbergs hired 100,000 new Swedish co-workers in previously this year. It had to do with bees that during the summer have contributed to a greener urban environment - and they have produced a lot of tasty honey. The honey will be sold at Löfbergs's own café, Rosteriet, where the customers get to choose who should get the profit from the sales.
