World record for Löfbergs's solar panel facility

Press release -

World record for Löfbergs's solar panel facility

The world's first large-scale test facility of solar panels for both heat and cold was built on top of Löfbergs's roof this spring. The first results were presented today. They show that the efficiency is record high. For every kWh invested, 10.6 kWh can be extracted. That is twice as much as for previous solutions.

The results were presented during a conference in Karlstad, arranged by Löfbergs and ClimateWell in cooperation with the International Energy Agency and the municipality of Karlstad.

- We are naturally pleased with these amazing results. The project is in line with our sustainability work, and I hope that the technology is spread and can benefit other parts of the world, says Lars Appelqvist, CEO at Löfbergs.

- This shows that hard work pays off and I am very proud that my vision finally has become reality, says Göran Bolin, founder of ClimateWell and the man behind the technology.

The new solar panels are unique in several ways. Partly when it comes to technology and efficiency, and partly when it comes to how easy they are to install on existing buildings. Even if the panels already produce twice as much energy as today's solutions, ClimateWell believes that the system can be optimized to make the efficiency even higher.

The solar panel facility is almost 2.000 square feet and was put into operation in June 2014. The project is part-financed by EU (Life+).

The Karlstad sun – the motor of a unique testing facility

The Karlstad sun will now have to prove worthy of its reputation as Löfbergs and ClimateWell is building the world's first large-scale testing facility of solar panels for heating as well as cooling. The new technology reduces energy use and CO2 emissions, and the project is being followed with very great interest by the European Commission among others.
