Lars Appelqvist – one of Sweden’s most sustainable leaders

The finalists for the Sustainable Leadership Award 2018 in Sweden were presented today. The coffee roaster Löfbergs’s CEO Lars Appelqvist is one of three final candidates. The award is presented by NMC The Swedish Association for Sustainable Business. It rewards a person that through competent leadership has contributed to successful sustainability work in its organization and/or society in general. Lars was also a finalist in 2013 and 2015.

-It feels great to be ranked as one of the best in Sweden in this field. Sustainability is a natural part in everything we do at Löfbergs and benefits people, environment as well as the company’s business, says Lars Appelqvist.

Lars Appelqvist is 44 years old and has been the CEO of Löfbergs for ten years. Löfbergs has under Lars’s management grown both in Sweden and abroad. The company has at the same time advanced the positions within the sustainability area. Lars’s commitment in sustainability issues is also apparent in his role as chairman of The Swedish Food Federation.

Integrated sustainability work
Lars Appelqvist is being acknowledged for integrating sustainability thinking in every part of Löfbergs’s business. But also, for his ability to lead and realize the company’s sustainability visions and goals through its own development projects, efficient transportation, climate-smart packaging, energy efficiency and by increasing the interest for sustainably farmed coffee. The latter has resulted in Löfbergs becoming one of the world’s largest purchasers of organic and Fairtrade labelled coffee.

The other two finalists are Azita Shariati, CEO at Sodexo and Eva Karlsson, CEO at Houdini Sportswear. The winner will be announced in Stockholm 15 October.
